Reni was born from watching a loved one lose their freedom to a treatment that kept her alive, but kept her from living.
It started with Alport syndrome, a genetic condition most people have never heard of, quietly taking my mother's kidneys long before it took anything else. There was no single accident, no one bad day to point to — just a family slowly learning to live around a machine.
My mother’s life slowly shrank to the distance between her home and the dialysis clinic. Family gatherings were planned around session times. Spontaneity became a luxury she couldn't afford.

The Invisible Tax
We saw the gratitude for a treatment that gives extra years. But we also saw the invisible tax: missed weddings, cancelled trips, and the quiet grief of feeling like a burden.
